Charlie was the first person that I ever met with the Savannah Fire Department. I interviewed him for a documentary film project with SCAD & talking to him made me see my father in Charlie who was also a retired firefighter. I learned a lot about the profession & my father through talking to Charlie on camera. This interview led to me volunteering more with the fire department as a filmmaker & ultimately becoming a firefighter myself at Savannah Fire Department. Charlie will forever be a cornerstone in my career in the fire service & in better understanding my father & a profession I had previously disdained. My father and I grew closer as a result of this chance occurrence with Charlie. I will forever be grateful to Charlie for that reason both in this life & the next.
